The feast of modern art from Bohemia and then Czechoslovakia richly deserves to be better known outside the region. The graphic design, children’s book illustrations, and drawings of costume designer, art director, and illustrator Zdenek Seydl (1916-1978) is well represented in Cotsen’s holdings of 20th century Czech picture books. This will be the first of a series of short posts highlighting his work in the archive.
Here are some wonderful pictures of creatures (and a monster) from a calendar he illustrated in the early 1960s. The splendid tiger first caught my eye and the others begged to be included.
